Message the service manual, etc. I will offer another example. A *simple* fuel filter change on another car I have is turning out to be a nightmare. You can see it. You can touch it. From under the car you can get a crow foot on the input line with a 2' extension. But you cannot break it loose.

The shop manual has a pic and says wrench here, wrench here (to hold and turn). AIN'T NO WAY no stinking wrench will fit where they say. I even took it to the best independant I know, and he was freaked. He does not know how to do it either, unless he drops the rack and subframe (4 hrs).

I WILL figure a way. First I will call the dealer and ask for the flat rate to change it. If it is cheap, I will take it to them and forget it. (I can't believe I said that!).

If they are ridiculous too, I will do something like cutting the steel input line, remounting the filter and splicing in a new fuel line.

Like you say, sometimes intuition is needed as well as tools and instructions.

Good job with the engine pull. As you said, if you did all your work right, going back will be much easier than if you have to figure out all the parts lying around!!

Go ahead and try that DIY project. The Titanic was built by pros, the Ark by amateurs!
